Suspicious death in South Lake Tahoe under investigation as murder, police say

Police announced Thursday that a suspicious death in South Lake Tahoe from mid-December is being investigated as a possible murder.

In a news release, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department said investigators are looking into the Dec. 16 death of Jorge Lemus Campos, 61.

Officers were called out to the 1000 block of Lodi Avenue around 11:52 a.m., where Campos was found dead inside his home.

The next day, the Sacramento County coroner conducted an autopsy and ruled the death a homicide.

Campos’ death had been caused by blood loss due to blunt force trauma, according to police.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department said there is not currently a threat to the community, but no further information was released as the investigation is underway.
