A man was arrested Friday near Stockton after a scooter rental app employee in Oakland reported stolen scooters.

In a news release, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said Timothy McMahon was arrested after deputies found 20 scooters in his French Camp driveway.

An employee at grüv, a scooter rental company, called the Sheriff’s Office after having reported the theft of several scooters to the Oakland Police Department on Thursday.

The caller told police that GPS trackers on the stolen scooters indicated they were located in French Camp, just south of Stockton.

Deputies responded to an address on Wayne Court, where they found McMahon, who was on probation and was subject to search, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

An RV on the property was searched and deputies found 20 electric scooters from companies including grüv, Lyft, Lime and Bird — all of which had been damaged and some of which had their internal GPS trackers removed.

McMahon, 38, was arrested and booked into the San Joaquin County jail on suspicion of being in possession of stolen property.
