Elk Grove school briefly locked down due to ‘unfounded’ report of nearby gunshots

An Elk Grove elementary school was briefly locked down Monday morning following reports of nearby gunshots, which police said turned out to be “unfounded.”

Officers responded to the 6300 block of Castro Verde Way “for a report of shots heard in the area” before 9 a.m. Monday, the Elk Grove Police Department said in a tweet.

Carroll Elementary School was placed on a precautionary lockdown, which was lifted after officers investigated and determined the call of shots fired had been unfounded.

No other details were released.
