16-year-old girl killed in West Sacramento shooting identified by Yolo coroner
The teen killed in a shooting Saturday night in West Sacramento has been identified, the Yolo County Coroner’s Office said.
Samantha J. Farris of Citrus Heights was identified as the victim who suffered at least one fatal gunshot wound. She was 16 years old.
Police responded about 7:30 p.m. to reports of gunshots in the area of Clarksburg Branch Line Trail near River City High School in West Sacramento. Officers found the teen girl at the scene where she was pronounced dead, police said in a news release.
Police have said the shooting may have been related to a marijuana transaction.
A vigil decorated with flowers and a red cross was visible on the trail where Farris was shot by Monday afternoon. A bag of caramel Bugles and a bottle of mango juice was placed next to a framed photo of the smiling teen, wearing a baseball jersey. Candles placed in front of the photo spelled out “Sammy” in large letters.
Two teen boys, one from Elk Grove and the second from West Sacramento, are being held on suspicion of homicide, robbery and conspiracy, West Sacramento Police Department spokesman Sgt. Eric Angle said in an emailed update. A Sacramento girl is being held as a possible accessory to the crimes. All three suspects are 16, Angle said.
West Sacramento Mayor Chris Cabaldon wrote Sunday in a statement and comments on Facebook that police initiated a manhunt for the final suspect and that he “turned himself in as the web of the manhunt tightened.” Cabaldon also praised the police department for bringing all three suspects quickly into custody.
