Sacramento sheriff’s detectives arrest man accused in a fatal 2010 Fair Oaks shooting
Sacramento County sheriff’s detectives made an arrest Tuesday in a cold case homicide from 2010 that left one man dead and another injured, according to a news release.
Nearly 10 years ago, two armed suspects broke into a home after 1 a.m. in the area of Winding Way and New York Avenue in Fair Oaks, the Sheriff’s Office said. The suspects demanded money from the two brothers living in the home. When the men did not give in, the suspects fired their weapons.
“A scuffle ensued and one of the victims was fatally shot,” the news release said.
The second brother sustained minor injures and survived. Both suspects fled in a vehicle, sheriff’s officials said.
This week, detectives assigned to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Homicide Cold Case Team made their first arrest in the case.
John Francis Meskell, 45, was arrested on suspicion of homicide and possession of a firearm by a felon. He is ineligible for bail, jail records show.
