Deputies have taken a driver and passenger into custody after pursuing a recreational vehicle towing another RV through the Vineyard area Tuesday morning, Sacramento County Sheriff’s officials said.

A police presence remains in the area of Gerber and Bradshaw roads, where the pursuit ended after spike strips were deployed, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said in a tweet shortly before 8:30 a.m.

The chase had started just before 7 a.m. and proceeded at slow speeds, around 10 to 15 mph, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sgt. Tess Deterding said.

Deterding said the RV was not stolen.

“Deputies were going to tow it” when the vehicle fled, Deterding said.

The male driver was taken into custody and a female occupant of the RV was detained, according to Deterding.

The suspect was later identified by sheriff’s officials as Timothy Cummings, 32.

Cummings was booked into the Sacramento County jail on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, as well as evading police while driving in a reckless manner. He is also being held on misdemeanor charges of resisting a peace officer and hit-and-run property damage.

Cummings’ bail is set at $90,000.
