20-year-old man dies in North Highlands crash near Auburn Boulevard coffee shop
A man was killed in a traffic crash in North Highlands on Tuesday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.
In a news release, the North Sacramento-area CHP said a 20-year-old man died in a crash on Auburn Boulevard near Kohler Road after leaving the parking lot of a nearby Dutch Bros.
Just after 8:30 p.m., CHP received reports of a two-vehicle collision in the area. Responding officers determined that the 20-year-old victim had been driving a 2009 Infiniti Coupe in the coffee shop parking lot.
Witnesses told officers that the driver entered southbound Auburn Boulevard without slowing down and was struck by a 2015 GMC Yukon SUV.
The driver of the Yukon apparently attempted to avoid the Infiniti, but did not have enough time to stop the crash from occurring, according to the CHP.
The Infiniti was pushed onto a lawn on the side of Auburn Boulevard, while the Yukon came to a halt in the roadway.
Sacramento Metro Fire personnel took the driver of the Infiniti to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before 9 p.m.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, and officers are still unsure if drugs or alcohol were a factor. No arrests were made at the scene.
North Sacramento-area CHP is asking anyone with information regarding the crash to call 916-348-2300.
