Man dies after walking in traffic on I-80 east of Sacramento. Was he drunk?

A Sacramento man who was killed after walking in front of oncoming traffic early Saturday morning on Interstate 80 east of Sacramento had likely been drinking, officers said.

The 47-year-old Sacramento man was one of the people involved in a three-car wreck just before 2 a.m. on westbound I-80 near the Antelope truck scales between Sacramento and Roseville, California Highway Patrol Officer A.J. McTaggart said.

After the cars pulled off to the side of the road, the man inexplicably got out of his vehicle and walked in front of traffic, where he was hit by two SUVs, McTaggart said.

All the drivers stayed with their vehicles until officers arrived and closed the westbound lanes to all traffic, McTaggart said.

The freeway was closed for more than two hours as they investigated the fatal wreck. Investigators suspect the dead man had been drinking prior to the wreck, McTaggart said.

His name wasn’t released.
