Suspect in custody for Sacramento shooting that left 1 man dead, police say
The Sacramento Police Department have arrested a suspect in a December 2019 shooting that left one man dead.
On Thursday, police arrested Larry Daniel Smith Jr., 24, in connection with a homicide at the intersection of Emerson Road and Whittier Drive at 5:26 a.m. on Dec. 8.
There, police found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound, authorities said.
According to police, officers administered first aid before fire department personnel took over, but the victim was pronounced dead on the scene.
According to a police news release, Smith was already being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail after South Sacramento CHP officers arrested him around 3 a.m. Dec. 9, a day after the shooting, for a probation violation. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail on Dec. 18.
Smith has a criminal history in Sacramento Superior Court that includes no-contest pleas in 2018 and 2016 for being a felon in possession of a firearm, as well as a no-contest plea in 2015 for robbery.
Police say that there are no outstanding suspects in the case.
