Police prevent juvenile from jumping off Capital City Freeway overpass near children’s home
Both directions of Capital City Freeway were closed briefly Friday night, according to the California Highway Patrol, after a girl tried to jump from an overpass on Watt Avenue.
The incident was first reported just after 5 p.m., and a CHP incident report log noted that the possible jumper was female.
Sacramento police spokesman Officer Karl Chan said Saturday that the female in distress was a juvenile and said that the situation ended without injury. No further details were provided.
The area of the incident is in the same location where a 12-year-old girl was struck and killed Jan. 15 after chasing a friend who was “distraught” onto the Capital City Freeway. Both girls were being housed at Sacramento Children Receiving Home, which is at the corner of Watt Avenue and Auburn Boulevard, and directly adjacent to the eastbound ramp onto the Capital City Freeway.
The victim in that incident, Kendra Czekaj of Sacramento, was laid to rest in a service Friday.
