Father and 2-year-old son killed in apparent murder-suicide in Elk Grove, police say

Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide Sunday afternoon in Elk Grove involving a father and 2-year-old son.

According to Elk Grove police spokesman Officer Jason Jimenez, authorities received a call just before 2 p.m. of a woman screaming in the street on Tamarindo near Noble Fir Lane. When police arrived, they found that a man had shot his 2-year-old child and then himself, Jimenez said. Both died from their wounds.

The Elk Grove Police Department said the deaths occurred on the 5500 block of Tamarindo Lane in a gated community known as The Aspens.

The Police Department in a news release said officers learned the woman had been in a “verbal argument” with the child’s father, a 45-year-old man, while inside their home. The man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and the 2-year-old was found dead with a single gunshot wound, the police news release said.

Identification of the deceased will be handled by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office, which had not released the victims’ names as of Monday morning.
