Man hospitalized after leading police on car chase through Natomas and West Sacramento

A man was injured in a crash Saturday night after leading police on a chase through Natomas and into West Sacramento, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

The driver was being pulled over near West El Camino Avenue and Truxel Road when he fled from officers and led them on a chase down southbound Interstate 5 around 5:10 p.m. Saturday night. He left the freeway at Richards Boulevard before crossing the median and heading down Jibboom Street onto the I Street Bridge into West Sacramento.

The car suffered a flat left tire and continued to shed parts as the chase continued, with the car riding on its rim for the second half of the chase.

The chase ended when the man crashed into a tree in the 600 block of Sacramento Avenue in West Sacramento. After a short foot pursuit, he was detained and transported to the hospital with injuries related to the collision, police said.

Police, who have not released the man’s name, said Sunday the man would be booked into Sacramento County Jail pending his medical release.
