Winters man convicted of beating girlfriend and intimidating witnesses in Davis

A Winters man was convicted Friday of injuring his girlfriend and dissuading witnesses, according to the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office.

Jesus Reyes and his girlfriend drove to an apartment complex in Davis on April 4 when Reyes began punching, slapping and head-butting her in the car, according to a news release. She tried to get out of the car, but was pulled back in by Reyes.

A mother and son saw the beating and yelled at Reyes to “let her go,” according to the release. Reyes yelled, “You don’t tell anyone” at them and drove off with the woman in the car. They gave Davis and Winters police the car’s license plate number and were able to find them two hours later.

Reyes barricaded himself inside his house and lied to officers about the woman’s whereabouts, the DA’s office said. He was arrested and charged with inflicting corporal injury, false imprisonment with force or violence and two counts of dissuading witnesses.

Due to a prior strike conviction, Reyes faces up to 20 years in prison, according to the release. He will be sentenced March 2.
