Alleged thief rappels out of apartment, is immediately met by Sacramento Sheriff’s K9
A suspect accused of breaking into multiple vehicles in north Sacramento County, stealing items from inside trucks and victims’ garages, was apprehended recently by sheriff’s deputies after trying to rappel by rope out of his second-story apartment.
It didn’t work, obviously, as a deputy and K-9 were waiting right outside the window, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said.
The suspect, whose identity was not released, had been wanted in connection with thefts in a north Sacramento County neighborhood, the Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday in a Facebook post. The alleged thief had been captured on multiple surveillance cameras and left his personal cell phone inside one of the vehicles he broke into, the post said. Prior to that, he had stolen a 12-gauge shotgun from a prior victim’s truck and tools from that same victim’s garage.
Detectives identified the suspect using the lost cell phone and determined he was on searchable probation in the county, the deputies post said. As detectives went to conduct a search at his residence, the man “used a rope to rappel out of the window in an attempt to evade detectives.”
“However, the suspect was met outside by a detective and K9 Jedi and was subsequently taken into custody,” the social media post continued.
Sheriff’s officials posted a photo from the ambitious getaway — an orange, knotted rope hanging down from the apartment building’s upper floor. In the photo, a proud-looking Jedi is sitting in front of the rope with his tongue sticking out.
