Fair Oaks woman, 89, killed in Highway 50 crash near Pollock Pines, CHP says
An 89-year-old woman from Fair Oaks was killed Thursday in a traffic collision on Highway 50 near Pollock Pines.
In a news release, the Placerville-area California Highway Patrol said Jean Macke suffered fatal injuries after crashing into another car while rounding a curve on the highway.
Macke had been driving a 2014 Ford Escape westbound on the highway just west of Fresh Pond around 6:20 p.m. at a speed of 65 mph, according to CHP.
At the same time, a 2013 Toyota Sienna driven by Silun Xie of Riverbank was approaching in the eastbound lanes.
Macke’s Ford drifted into oncoming traffic at a slight curve in the highway, crashing into Xie’s Toyota head-on.
Xie, along with a passenger, Xumin Yang, both suffered major injuries.
Macke was transported to Marshall Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
CHP is still investigating the cause of the crash.
