Minor injured in Woodland shooting, prompting mayor to decry gang violence
A minor was injured in a Woodland shooting Saturday night that lacks identifiable motive — prompting the city’s mayor to speak out against gang violence.
In a news release, the Woodland Police Department said the shooting occurred just before 9 p.m. on the 300 block of Bright Day Drive, a residential area.
Two boys were caught in gunfire as they got out of their vehicle, according to police. One was hit, but the other was uninjured.
The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Police expect the boy to survive.
Investigators have yet to determine a motive and do not have information on possible suspects.
In the wake of the shooting, Woodland Mayor Rich Lansburgh wrote a column in the Woodland Daily Democrat, decrying the violence and drawing attention to a broader trend in the city.
“If you live in Woodland you have probably read news accounts and social media reports about what most of us have known or suspected — gang violence is ramping up in our city,” Lansburgh wrote. “Gang rivalries are like an insatiable cancer, and just as potentially deadly for the hosts.”
Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call the Woodland Police Department at 530-661-7850.
