Police arrest suspect and lock down Sacramento school after gunfire hits nearby vehicle

Investigators have arrested a suspect accused of firing a gun, missing the intended target but hitting his vehicle with bullets Tuesday morning near Glenwood Elementary School in north Sacramento.

Nobody was hit by gunfire and the school was placed on lockdown as precaution until officers determined the area was safe, said Officer Karl Chan, a Sacramento Police Department spokesman.

The shooting was reported shortly before 10:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Estes Way, just a few blocks west of Englewood Street and the school.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the person who was the intended target. His vehicle had been shot at, Chan said, and the suspect was spotted leaving the area.

The initial investigation determined that the suspect had shot at the victim after a dispute, Chan said. The suspect was arrested and was expected to be booked at Sacramento County Main Jail. Police on Tuesday evening had not released the name, age and city of residence of the suspect.
