Mail stolen from nearly 100 rural Placer County residents, authorities say

Authorities are investigating after mail was stolen from close to 100 mailboxes Thursday in rural Placer County.

The thefts happened sometime during the evening along Auburn-Folsom Road, from Newcastle to Granite Bay, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said in social media posts Friday morning.

Sheriff’s officials noted that the thefts coincide with tax season.

“Many W-2 forms are arriving in the mail, along with other information-sensitive documents,” the Sheriff’s Office post said.

The Sheriff’s Office also urged residents to track credit card and bank statements, to check your mailbox daily and to place a hold on your mail if you plan on going out of town.

Anyone with information about the theft is urged to contact the sheriff’s investigation division at 530-889-7830.
