Five people were arrested in Lodi in the past two weeks for unrelated firearm offenses, including one man who had a “homemade” firearm capable of shooting 12-gauge shotgun shells, the Lodi Police Department said.

Gary Johnson, 58, was arrested on Feb. 6 after officers responded to a suspicious person call and allegedly found the handmade gun in his possession. A photo posted on the department’s Facebook page showed the rudimentary firearm, which consisted of a barrel and firing mechanism.

In four other arrests in February, officers also found three handguns and a revolver. Three of the four arrests involved teenagers who were booked into Juvenile Hall on suspicion of weapons offenses. The fourth suspect, a 22-year-old man, was booked into the Lodi Jail.

“Many of these arrests were made because diligent citizens called us when they saw something suspicious,” the Lodi Police Department said in a social media post. “...Thank you for your help in keeping our streets safe.”
