Sacramento State student tells police she ran from masked robber with knife on campus

Sacramento State University students were warned about a reported attempted robbery on campus, in which a student says she was held at knifepoint by a masked suspect early Wednesday before she escaped.

The incident reportedly occurred about 6 a.m. on the grassy area of the main quad at Sacramento State as the student was walking from the residential halls, when she was accosted by a male, said Sacramento State Police Department Chief Mark Iwasa.

She told authorities that the man, wearing black clothes and some type of mask, pulled out a pocket knife and demanded her belongings, Iwasa said. The student ran away and reported the incident. The suspect did not steal anything from the student and there were no reported injuries.

Iwasa said there was limited information from the student about the attempted robbery. He said on Wednesday afternoon that officers had not found or identified a suspect, and they did not know in which direction the suspect left the area.

Iwasa said the campus Police Department sent out an email Wednesday to make students at the university aware of the incident.

Officers ask anyone with information about this incident to call Sacramento State police at (916) 278-7321.
