Police officials on Thursday, February 20, 2020, released a photo of an unidentified suspect who stole more than $1,000 worth of baby formula from a Target store on Groveland Lane in Lincoln, California.

The Lincoln Police Department on Thursday afternoon asked the public to help identify a man suspected of stealing more than $1,000 worth of baby formula from a Target store last week.

But investigators think the suspect might have stolen baby formula from the same store last month, making off with more than $2,100 worth of the baby formula.

The Police Department posted on its Facebook page an image of suspect captured on a store security camera. The suspect can be seen pushing a shopping cart filled with containers of baby formula.

Jill Thompson, a Lincoln police spokeswoman, said the suspect in both thefts at the Target store in the 900 block of Groveland Lane loaded a shopping cart with baby formula and walked out without paying.

It was unclear to police what the suspect might be doing with all that baby formula. One Facebook user commented on the police post, saying the stolen baby formula is sold online through Facebook’s Marketplace. Thompson said investigators have not determined a motive.

“There’s a lot of speculation, but we won’t know until he’s caught,” Thompson told The Sacramento Bee.

The suspect reportedly stole more than a $1,000 worth of baby formula from a Target store on Feb. 12. That crime was reported as a grand theft about 7 p.m. that day, according to the department’s weekly crime summary.

Thompson said it appears that the same suspect stole more than $1,100 worth of baby formula from the Target store on Jan. 21, about three weeks before.

Investigators asked anyone with information about this suspect to call the Lincoln Police Department at 916-645-4040.
