Head-on collision in Sutter County leaves one dead, another injured, CHP says

One person was killed and another was seriously injured Friday evening in a head-on collision on Highway 113 near Knights Road in Sutter County.

The collision occurred when the driver of a 2001 Toyota Camry traveling northbound tried to pass a commercial vehicle and drove into the southbound lane. The 18-year-old driver of a 2013 Nissan Sentra was traversing a left curve in the southbound lane and was unable to see the oncoming Camry, according to a CHP report.

The driver of the Camry failed to see the Sentra ahead, and when the drivers noticed each other, both veered to the west shoulder and collided head on.

The driver of the Camry was pronounced dead and was only identified as a 67-year-old from Yuba City. The name will be released Sutter County Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the Sentra was injured and taken to UC Davis Medical Center.

Alcohol and and drugs are not considered a factor in the collision, CHP said.
