Yolo County Sheriff’s Office reveals new details about elderly man killed in his home
Nineteen months after John “Mike” Hawk was shot to death in his home, the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office is still looking for the shooter. But investigators believe Hawk knew his killer and had “a close relationship” with the unidentified suspect.
The Sheriff’s Office revealed details about the homicide investigation on Monday, asking the public to provide information that might lead to Hawk’s killer.
“Yolo County Sheriff’s investigators are again asking community members to come forward with any information that could be helpful to the investigation,” sheriff’s officials wrote in a Facebook post.
Hawk, 80, was found dead on July 19, 2018, at the home in the 36000 block of County Road 20, a rural area about a mile northwest of Woodland. Sheriff’s investigators confirmed that Hawk died from a gunshot and was a victim of a homicide.
On Monday, officials said the motive behind Hawk’s killing does not appear to be robbery. Valuable items at the home were in plain view, and the home appeared to be undisturbed, according to the sheriff’s Facebook post.
Sheriff’s investigators have said before that they believed the shooting was not a random act of gun violence. Now, they’re saying Hawk knew the shooter.
Hawk’s body was found in his house after sheriff’s officials were called to check on the elderly man while his wife of 60 years was vacationing with the couple’s two daughters and other relatives, the Davis Enterprise has reported. No weapons were found at the scene.
