Two women die after vehicle leaves road, hits tree in Yuba County, CHP says

Two women died Friday afternoon in a crash south of Brownsville in Yuba County, when their vehicle failed to negotiate a curve in the road and hit a tree, the California Highway Patrol reported.

A 39-year-old woman from Oroville and a 22-year-old woman from Forbestown were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, the Yuba-Sutter Area CHP office announced in a news release. The CHP said their names won’t be released until their families were properly notified.

The crash was reported about 1:20 p.m. Friday on Frenchtown Road, just south of Miracle Way. The CHP said the Oroville woman was driving a 1991 Lexus south on Frenchtown Road at a high rate of speed and approaching the curve in the road.

While the driver was trying to negotiate the curve, the Lexus moved into the oncoming lane, the CHP said. The driver then over-corrected and lost control of the vehicle, which went off the road and struck the tree, according to the news release.

The CHP said investigators did not know whether alcohol or drug intoxication contributed to the fatal crash.
