Skateboarder sent to hospital with major injuries after North Auburn traffic accident

A skateboarder was hospitalized after being hit by a vehicle in North Auburn on Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

In a news release, the Auburn-area CHP said Erich Hostetter of Auburn was riding a longboard just after 7:30 a.m. northbound on Highway 49 toward the intersection of Luther Road.

At the same time, Auburn resident Frederick Weisgerber was driving his 2017 Honda Accord southbound on the highway, headed to turn left onto Luther Road on a green light.

CHP officers determined that Hostetter failed to yield to traffic signals and entered the roadway as the Accord turned into the intersection.

Hostetter was struck by the front of the Accord and skidded into the street, suffering major injuries. Placer fire personnel arrived to administer first aid.

Weisgerber was uninjured. Hostetter was taken to a Roseville hospital for treatment.

CHP officers are still investigating the crash, although no arrests were made at the scene, and drugs and alcohol did not play a role.
