Someone snag your snowboard? Deputies cracking down on ‘organized’ Tahoe-area thefts

Authorities are working to reunite skiers with their skis and snowboarders with their boards after a recent crackdown on thefts at Tahoe-area ski resorts.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office said over the past two weeks deputies and detectives have “arrested several subjects and submitted numerous warrants for multiple suspects involved in organized schemes” to steal skis and snowboards, putting some of them up for sale online, according to a Thursday social media post.

Deputies have returned some of the stolen boards and pairs of skis with their rightful honors, but are still looking to identify “numerous” victims, the Sheriff’s Office post said.

The organized thefts happened around Feb. 23, according to the post.

Anyone who has recently had their skis or snowboards stolen at any resort in the Tahoe area is asked to contact Detective Brent DeuPree at 530-581-6329 or by email at BDeupree@placer.ca.gov.

“Hopefully we can reunite you with your stolen skis!” sheriff’s officials wrote.
