A man is in custody after CHP officers stopped him for speeding in south Sacramento and found a Glock handgun in his car, the highway patrol said Friday.

At 2 a.m. Friday, CHP officers patrolling Highway 99 saw a white Mercedes use the shoulder to pass a semi-truck while traveling in excess of 90 mph, the highway patrol said in a social media post.

Officers made a traffic stop on the Mercedes and found the man had a Glock .45 caliber handgun hidden on the right side of the driver’s seat, near his hand. The gun had an extended magazine loaded with 16 rounds in addition to a bullet in the chamber.

“The officers secured the gun and pulled the driver out of the Mercedes,” the social media post said. “While speaking to the driver, he showed signs and symptoms of alcohol impairment.”

The driver was arrested on suspicion of felon in possession of a firearm, DUI, and other gun-related charges, CHP said.
