Daughter of Golden State Killer/East Area Rapist victim speaking in Sacramento this week

The daughter of one of the Golden State Killer’s victims has scheduled two free lectures in Sacramento this week to discuss the case.

Jennifer Carole, the daughter of Lyman Smith, who was killed along with his wife, Charlene, in Ventura County in March 1980, will speak Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Library, 4799 Stockton Blvd., in Sacramento.

She also will speak Thursday at 7 p.m. at the North Highlands-Antelope Library, 4235 Antelope Road, in Antelope.

Both talks are free and open to the public.

Carole’s Thursday discussion will follow a hearing in Sacramento Superior Court for Joseph James DeAngelo, the suspect in the Golden State Killer/East Area Rapist crimes who faces 26 felony counts tied to 13 murders and 13 sexual assaults.

DeAngelo currently is scheduled to face a preliminary hearing on May 12, although his public defenders are seeking to have charges dismissed in the case and also have discussed seeking a plea bargain.
