Man dies after his moped crashes with an SUV in south Sacramento, CHP says
A 62-year-old man died after his moped crashed with a sport utility vehicle in a south Sacramento neighborhood Tuesday evening, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Medics treated the injured Sacramento man at scene before he was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries, the CHP announced in a Facebook post Wednesday. The man’s name has not been released pending family notification.
The crash occurred about 7:20 p.m. on 66th Avenue. The man on the 2008 Lancer Moped moped was pulling out of a driveway to enter 66th Avenue. At the same time, a 19-year-old Sacramento man driving a 2005 Acura MDX was heading east on 66th Avenue about 35 mph and approaching the moped’s location.
The CHP said the moped driver entered the road directly in the path of the SUV, which was unable to avoid colliding with the moped. The moped driver was thrown off his vehicle and landed in the westbound lanes.
The Acura’s driver remained at the scene of the crash and cooperated with investigating officers before he was released, according to the CHP. Investigators said alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a factor in the crash.
