Sacramento man unconscious in car with replica gun arrested, sheriff’s officials say

A Sacramento man was arrested in Roseville after a Placer County sheriff’s deputy found him unconscious in a vehicle near what appeared to be a handgun but turned out to be an Airsoft replica gun.

Jahandar Raissi, 59, was arrested on suspicion of resisting a police officer and public intoxication, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office announced on its Facebook page Friday morning.

The deputy’s encounter with Raissi occurred early Monday along Fiddyment Road. The deputy was driving by and spotted the vehicle on the shoulder of the road with its hazard lights on.

The deputy stopped to check on the vehicle and found Raissi slumped over in the driver’s seat. Sheriff’s officials said the deputy spotted what looked like a handgun on the floorboard behind the driver’s seat, within reach of the unconscious Raissi.

The deputy called for backup, and they formed a plan to wake up Raissi and quickly detain him before he could reach for the gun. When the deputies woke up Raissi, he began to resist them and ignore their commands to place his hands behind his back, according to sheriff’s officials.

The deputies subdued Raissi and handcuffed him. Sheriff’s officials said replica guns usually look like the real thing when deputies encounter them, so they always take the necessary precautions.
