14-year-old boy killed near Mira Loma High in Arden Arcade by teenage driver, CHP says

A 14-year-old boy was killed Friday afternoon in a crash near Mira Loma High School in Arden Arcade, according to the California Highway Patrol.

North Sacramento-area CHP spokesman Officer Greg Zumstein said the crash occurred on Sunnyvale Avenue near Becerra Way, which runs parallel to the school.

The boy, who was not a Mira Loma student, was hit in the middle of the roadway by a 17-year-old driving a two-door Infiniti coupe, Zumstein said. It was not immediately clear if the driver was a student at Mira Loma.

Witnesses told CHP that the boy jumped onto the hood of the coupe, but fell off and was hit by the car. Sacramento Metro Fire personnel arrived and declared the boy dead at 3:29 p.m.

No other injuries were reported, Zumstein said. He said investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, and no arrests were made. The crash is still under investigation.
