A Northern California man was arrested on attempted murder charges Friday night after trying to shoot his son with a handgun, according to the Redding Police Department.

Alonzo Shoulders, 57, got into a physical altercation with his son Michael during a family dinner in the 1700 block of Henry Avenue around 8:48 p.m., according to the release. During the altercation, Alonzo grabbed a handgun from his bedroom and fired it several times in Michael’s direction.

Michael was able to wrestle the gun away from Alonzo and flee the scene in a vehicle. He was not injured. Officers arrived and arrested Alonzo, who had multiple facial injuries.

He was booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of attempted homicide, being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition, domestic battery and negligent discharge of a firearm.
