Carmichael jogger run over in apparent intentional act, sheriff’s officials say
Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating after a man ran over a jogger Sunday morning in Carmichael, apparently intentionally.
Deputies responded to the residential area of Hackberry Lane and Rolling Oak Drive following reports that a man driving a white BMW had “intentionally hit a female with his vehicle,” Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sgt. Tess Deterding said Tuesday.
The victim was transported to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, Deterding said.
“After talking with witnesses and reviewing video, deputies determined the BMW was driving recklessly and someone yelled at the driver to slow down prior to him using his vehicle to hit the female,” Deterding said.
On Monday, sheriff’s deputies located what is believed to be the suspect vehicle, in a nearby neighborhood. The vehicle was towed as evidence and the registered owner was contacted, Deterding said.
Deputies “believe they have the suspect identified, but they need to do some additional witness interviews before moving forward,” Deterding said. It was not clear whether the potential suspect was the BMW’s registered owner or whether the vehicle was reported stolen.
Ring home surveillance video from a nearby residence shared by a witness with Fox 40 shows a white BMW driving recklessly in the neighborhood, speeding through stop signs and doing donuts dangerously close to the victim, who is a woman jogging on a sidewalk and crosswalks with her dog.
The video, as posted by Fox 40, does not show the actual collision with the jogger.
