Driver huffed canned air, passed out and crashed into south Sacramento yard, CHP says
Huffing a canned inhalant while driving is a crime, the California Highway Patrol reminded Sacramento drivers this week.
Officers responded around 2 p.m. Thursday to a south Sacramento residential neighborhood after receiving reports that a pickup truck had crashed into a front-yard tree, and that the driver was passed out behind the wheel, the CHP South Sacramento office said in a Facebook post. The incident happened near McClintock Way.
Investigating officers contacted the driver, who had woken up and exited the vehicle, and discovered “three cans of canned air” in the truck. Photos of evidence posted by the CHP included a bright green and blue canister of “Blow Off Duster.”
“The driver admitted to the officers that he was driving the pick-up when he decided to take a huff of canned air,” the CHP Facebook post said. “The driver stated that he then blacked out and when he woke back up, the pick-up was in the front yard.”
The male suspect, who was not identified, was arrested.
The CHP in its social media post said that driving after huffing canned air can result in a DUI, and reminded that abusing inhalants is extremely dangerous in its own right. Doing so can cause seizures, loss of conscious and, in some cases, sudden death.
