Man suffers gunshot wound to leg in residential neighborhood, Elk Grove police say

A man was injured, but is expected to survive in an Elk Grove shooting Sunday.

Elk Grove Police Department spokesman Officer Jason Jimenez said officers were called to the 9100 block of Lujan Drive around 2:30 p.m. on reports of a shooting.

Responding officers arrived to find a man who suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, Jimenez said. The victim, whose injuries are not life-threatening, was taken to a hospital.

Elk Grove detectives are still at the scene of the shooting and are actively investigating.

In an update posted to social media, police said the shooting appears to be an isolated incident.

Traffic is impacted near the scene, with Lujan Drive shut down between Egret Drive and Los Torres Drive.

The area surrounding Lujan Drive is largely residential and is only a few blocks away from James McKee Elementary School.

Jimenez said the investigation is still in its early stages and police are not immediately releasing a suspect description.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the shooting to call 916-714-5115.
