Four arrested after Placer deputy finds trail to stolen items from dead man’s home

Placer County sheriff’s deputies have arrested four men in connection with the burglary at a vacant home belonging to a man who died about two months ago.

About 9 a.m. on April 2, a deputy responded to a report of property that was spotted along the 7000 block of Callison Road in Penryn, the Placer County Sheriffs Office announced on Facebook on Wednesday morning.

The deputy found the abandoned property, which included two chainsaws and a box full of tools, in front of the vacant home. A relative told sheriff’s deputies that the homeowner died in February.

The deputy searched outside and discovered an open door at the home and an open shed door on the property. The deputy found a trail through grass leading to nearby brush, where she spotted Isaac Lindsay hiding, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said Lindsay, 46, is a transient man who is on probation in Placer County. Officials said Lindsay ran from the deputy and she chased after him. She caught up to him and detained him.

Other deputies joined the investigation and they were led to a nearby property, where they found more stolen items. Those items included three guns found in Lindsay’s vehicle. Officials said the stolen guns came from the vacant home along Callison Road.

At this second property, deputies questioned three other men found there: Michael Gordon, 45, James Muckelrath, 58, and Joseph Billotte, 53.

Gordon is on probation, and Billotte and Muckelrath are on parole. The men were arrested on suspicion of possessing or receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy.

Lindsay was arrested on suspicion of burglary, giving police false identification, resisting arrest and violating probation.
