Man shot by Sacramento County homeowner during police pursuit dies, according to coroner
A man who was shot by a homeowner in the Foothill Farms area during the course of a law enforcement pursuit earlier this week died of his injuries, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies on Monday evening took over a vehicle pursuit that began in the Rocklin Police Department’s jurisdiction, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sgt. Tess Deterding said Tuesday. The male driver crashed near the interchange of Interstate 80, the Capital City Freeway and Auburn Boulevard around 6:30 p.m. and began to flee on foot.
While the pursuit suspect was fleeing, he encountered a homeowner in the area of Belmont Place Lane, Deterding said. The homeowner shot the man during that encounter, she said, and the man was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.
The gunshot victim, identified by the coroner on Wednesday as 25-year-old Tyler Fred Elliot Rae of Antioch, died Monday night of his injuries, according to the Coroner’s Office.
Deterding said as of Tuesday morning that an investigation into the shooting remained ongoing, with witnesses still being interviewed, and that no arrests had been made as detectives were continuing to determine whether the shooting constituted a crime.
Deterding did not immediately respond to requests for further comment Wednesday. The homeowner has not been identified.
No other details about the initial pursuit have been released by the Rocklin Police Department.
