Woodland police arrest man and seize rifle after gunfire heard near elementary school

Officers arrested a man and confiscated a rifle after Woodland residents reported hearing a loud fight and gunfire in a neighborhood cul de sac near Zamora Elementary School late Tuesday.

Shortly before 11:30 p.m., officers responded to the reported fight along Harvard Court, the Woodland Police Department said on its Facebook page Wednesday.

As the officers headed to the area, other callers told police that there multiple shots fired and a white Jeep Cherokee was seen leaving the area. Police officials said the Jeep was spotted in a parking lot in the 500 block of West Cross Street, about a mile north of where the shooting was reported.

Jared Ray Lampkin of Woodland was the driver in the Jeep, police said. Lampkin, 35, was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a gun and ammunition, possessing meth, possessing a meth pipe and driving with a suspended license.

Police said no injuries were reported in the shooting.
