Deputies arrest two for identity theft, say Rocklin residents had sensitive mail taken
Two people were arrested last week in Placer County after sheriff’s deputies found stolen mail, tax returns, driver’s licenses in their car, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said.
At 3:30 a.m. Thursday, a deputy saw a car with a burned out taillight traveling westbound on Interstate 80 near Sierra College Boulevard. The deputy made a traffic stop and found one of the occupants, identified as Savannah Vetterli, 25, was on probation out of Alameda County. The second occupant was identified as Corey Reese, 33.
The deputy searched the vehicle and found “stolen mail and packages from Rocklin residents, a stolen check, tax returns, driver’s license, an EBT card and work identification, all belonging to other people,” the sheriff’s office said. “Deputies counted more than ten victims of identity theft.”
Deputies later contacted the victims at their homes and found one of the mailboxes had been pried open.
Vetterli and Reese were arrested on suspicion of identity theft of ten or more people and conspiracy and were booked into the South Placer Jail.
