One dead, one injured after morning shooting in south Sacramento, sheriff says

Homicide detectives are investigating Wednesday after an early-morning shooting left one man dead and another injured in south Sacramento, authorities say.

Deputies responded about 2 a.m. to the 5900 block of Stacy Avenue, located off of Stockton Boulevard and just east of Highway 99, for reports of a shooting, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sgt. Tess Deterding said.

Arriving officers located one man with at least one gunshot wound who was pronounced dead at the scene, and a second man with a lower-body gunshot injury, Deterding said. The second victim was taken to a local hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

Detectives and crime scene investigators remain at the scene Wednesday morning. No suspect information or motive is known, Deterding said.

The deceased victim will be identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.

No other details were released.
