5 suspects, one caught at Atlanta airport, arrested in fatal North Highlands hotel shooting
Five people, including one who was apprehended at Atlanta’s airport, were arrested in the past week in connection with a fatal February shooting in North Highlands.
In a Saturday news release, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said two Sacramento residents, Lafonjaney Moultrie, 23, and Cleveland Joseph Pratt, 27, were among those arrested.
Also taken into custody were Bertrand Embrous Keeton, 32, of Pittsburg; Michael Timothy Smith, 33, Oakland; and Isaiah Stephan Louis, 27, also of Oakland. Louis was arrested in Atlanta.
Just before midnight on Feb. 28, the Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting a shooting on the 5300 block of Date Avenue.
Responding deputies found a man outside a hotel in a car with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was declared dead at the scene despite attempts to revive him.
The victim was later identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as Lumont Otis, a 43-year-old San Francisco resident.
Moultrie, Pratt, Keeton and Smith are currently being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail on felony murder and conspiracy charges and are ineligible for bail, according to Sheriff’s Office records.
Pratt is also shown to have violated his parole. Keeton has an additional charge of felony firearm possession.
Louis was arrested Tuesday by airport police at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, but gave an Oakland address. He was charged with being a fugitive from justice and remains without bail at Clayton County jail in Jonesboro, Georgia.
Moultrie, Pratt and Keaton were booked on Wednesday evening. Smith was booked Tuesday morning.
The Sheriff’s Office was aided in its investigation by the Atlanta Police Department and the FBI. Deputies said the motive in the shooting remains unclear.
