Olivehurst man arrested in Sacramento on suspicion of shooting at car, authorities say

An Olivehurst man was arrested in Sacramento on Tuesday on suspicion of firing a gun at an occupied car early this month, authorities say.

The suspect, who was not 18 at the time of the alleged incident, turned himself in at the Sacramento County Main Jail, according to the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred June 1 around 2 p.m. at the corner of Olivehurst and Seventh avenues, Yuba County sheriff’s spokeswoman Leslie Carbah said. The suspect allegedly fired shots from a handgun at a white Mitsubishi Eclipse, which then drove away.

Sacramento police on Tuesday responded to a hotel in the 2100 block of Harvard Street in Sacramento, where the suspect was thought to be, Carbah said. When officers arrived, authorities believe he fled the area before surrendering in Sacramento.

The suspect, who turned 18 on Monday, will be tried as a juvenile, according to the Yuba County District Attorney’s Office. His name has been released, but The Sacramento Bee will not publish it because he was a minor when the alleged crime occurred.

Carbah said Yuba County has has issued an arraignment warrant for the suspect’s extradition, adding that he also had a warrant out of Monterey County, but did not say why.
