Cosumnes Oaks High graduate shot and killed in Berkeley. Police are investigating

A 19-year-old Elk Grove man was shot and killed in Berkeley on Monday, police said in a news release.

Seth Smith, a graduate of Cosumnes Oaks High School in Elk Grove, would be starting his third year at University of California, Berkeley in the fall. Smith was walking down his street Monday night when he was shot at close range, his mother Michelle Rode-Smith told berkleyside.com.

Berkeley authorities responded to the scene at Dwight Way at 11:34 p.m. after a passerby reported a man was bleeding on the ground, according to a news release from Berkeley police. Smith was dead at the scene, police said.

The case remains under investigation by Berkeley police.

The city of Berkeley is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of all responsible suspects, deputies wrote in an email.
