Sacramento woman killed in I-80 motorcycle crash near Citrus Heights, CHP says
A Sacramento woman was killed early Sunday morning while riding a motorcycle on Interstate 80 near Citrus Heights, according to the California Highway Patrol.
In a news release, the North Sacramento-area CHP office said that the 25-year-old motorcyclist was riding her 2011 Kawasaki Ninja westbound on I-80 just west of Greenback Lane around 12:23 a.m. when a crash involving an unknown number of vehicles occurred.
CHP officers arrived and shut down traffic temporarily in order to assess the scene. The motorcyclist, who had suffered major, life-threatening injuries, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
At 1:50 a.m., the hospital told CHP officers that the woman died.
The cause of and circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation. CHP is asking anyone with information regarding the crash to call 916-348-2300.
