Redding police arrest driver in hospital bed hours after rollover crash; DUI suspected

A 26-year-old Redding man was arrested Friday from his hospital bed hours after police say he drove drunk into a power pole and an auto shop before his car rolled over.

The Redding Police Department said Izaiah Harrison-Ferrari was driving a dark 2-door vehicle around 12:15 a.m. eastbound on East Cypress Avenue when his car struck the pole at the intersection of Alfreda Way, just in front of A&I Engines.

“When officers arrived, they discovered that a vehicle struck a power pole, shearing it in half, struck a building then landed upside down on its roof,” officers said in a press release Friday.

Officers assisted Harrison-Ferrari out of the vehicle and gave him aid before he was transported to a hospital. Police said he suffered moderate injuries.

Officers continued their investigation and suspected Harrison-Ferrari had been driving under the influence. Police also said that Harrison-Ferrari was on probation and had a “no-alcohol” clause in the terms of a prior court case, which was not disclosed.

Police arrested him in his hospital room and released him to hospital staff. Harrison-Ferrari is likely to face a charge of DUI and a probation violation at a later date, police said.
