Search efforts intensify as Grass Valley man’s disappearance stretches to over a month

As the disappearance of Joseph McCormack lengthens to over a month, developments of new investigative leads have sparked an intensified search by the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office.

McCormack, a 26-year-old resident of Grass Valley, was reported missing by his family May 26, according to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office. In the wake of his disappearance, detectives from the Major Crimes Unit are working with the Grass Valley Police Department and McCormack’s family to find him.

New investigative leads developed the evening of June 25, prompting search and rescue teams to comb areas of Rough and Ready Highway and Ridge Road. The search was conducted with teams from Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, Yuba County Sheriff’s Office, Placer County Sheriff’s Office, Solano County Sheriff’s Office and the California Rescue Dog Association, according to Nevada County sheriff’s officials.

McCormack is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds with shoulder length brown hair and brown eyes. The clothing he was wearing at the time of his disappearance is unknown.

The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office has encouraged anyone with additional information to contact the Nevada County Regional Dispatch Center at 530-265-7880 and request to speak with a detective working the investigation.
