Yuba authorities investigating connection between shooting and fatal hit-and-run

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an attempted homicide and a possibly related hit-and-run fatality that occurred Tuesday evening.

Witnesses reported there was a verbal altercation in front of a motel on North Beale Road in East Linda just before 10 p.m., after which a suspect and his passenger left in a car. The suspect later returned to the parking lot in the same vehicle and shot into the victim’s vehicle, according to Leslie Carbah of the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department.

The suspect left the scene in the car before authorities arrived.

The victim had injuries to her leg and was taken to the hospital to be treated. She was later released, according to Carbah.

Within a few minutes of the shooting, a fatal hit-and-run was reported when a car struck a motorcyclist, killing a Yuba City man who was identified as Michael Sanchez, 44. The driver of the car continued to drive about a quarter mile after Sanchez was flung onto the car before stopping near Avondale Avenue, according to the CHP.

The vehicle was found nearby, but authorities were unable to locate the driver. CHP and Yuba County are continuing to investigate the fatal hit-and-run and shooting, though it remains unclear yet if they are related.
