The body of an Elk Grove man who went missing in the Feather River near Yuba City on Tuesday was found by deputies Thursday.

In a news release, the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office said that Nawid Alokozay, 27, was found dead in the river by Sutter County and Butte County dive teams around 8:00 a.m. south of the 5th Street bridge.

Alokozay had been at the river on Tuesday with three other men, including Mohammad Walid Shams, 23, also an Elk Grove resident. He and Shams were pulled under by currents near a beach north of the 10th Street bridge, less than a mile north from where Alokozay’s body was recovered.

Shams was pulled out the same day by a bystander and he was taken to Rideout Hospital unconscious. There, he was pronounced dead the same day.

Alokozay had been considered missing until his body was found.

The Sutter County Sheriff’s Office wants to express our condolences to all family and friends of these two young men,” deputies said in a statement. “We offer our support, thought and prayers to everyone during their devastating time.
