Fatal shooting at a North Highlands convenience store leaves one dead, deputies say
An altercation at a North Highlands convenience store early Sunday morning resulted in the shooting death of one man and an injury to another, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of the shooting at a store in the 4900 block of Watt Avenue at about 1 a.m., according to a news release There, they found a victim with multiple gunshot wounds and a store security guard rendering aid to the victim inside the store.
The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Deputies said they apprehended a suspect, Eugene Pratt, and transported him to a local hospital due to the gunshot wound he suffered during the incident.
Investigators said the shooting occurred after Pratt, 53, and the victim became involved in a physical altercation. Pratt left the scene but later returned and shot the victim, according to the release. A security guard was unable to stop the attack.
The victim’s identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office after family notification.
An investigation is ongoing.
