Sheriff’s Office investigating Arden Arcade homicide that led to I-80 high-speed chase
Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the killing of a man in Arden Arcade that occurred Sunday evening and spurred a bi-county high-speed car chase.
Sheriff deputies received calls just after 5 p.m. about a possibly injured man near the block of 3500 San Ysidro Way. When they arrived, deputies found a man with “apparent trauma to his body,” according to a Sheriff’s Office press release, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was identified Wednesday by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as Antonios Dimitrios Xirouhakis, 65, from Carmichael.
Witnesses told deputies that they saw a car leave the scene. Shortly after, deputies tried to stop the suspected vehicle but it drove off, and a police chase ensued.
Sheriff’s deputies, as well as West Sacramento and Davis police, chased the car down I-80 to Mace Boulevard in Davis. At times traveling more than 100 miles per hour, the suspected car then looped back through foothill farms before ending in the McClellan business park.
The driver and a passenger in the car were ultimately detained, though deputies still don’t know their connection to the incident or the victim. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
